Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Joanna Young is a licensed clinical psychologist who has 18+ years experience. For the past 8+ years, she has been working as a psychologist at the Albany VA. During this time, she has developed extensive expertise working with patients suffering from trauma-related symptoms as well as adjustment- and stress-related symptoms.
Dr. Young’s approach can be best described as integrative, patient-centered, trauma-informed, and evidence-based. She is skilled in various therapeutic approaches and tailors treatment collaboratively to best meet the needs of each individual.
Working with Dr. Young, clients should expect a therapist who strives to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can feel safe to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with curiosity and self-compassion. She takes a collaborative approach to treatment, and strives to create a balance between helping a client achieve insight/self-awareness and meaningful change.
Dr. Young utilizes therapeutic modalities such as:Â Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Written Exposure Therapy (WET), Emotionally Focused Therapy, CBT, DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Somatic Approaches, Mindfulness-based Interventions, and Interpersonal and Attachment-Based Interventions.
