📚 New on the NY Mental Health Center Blog
We just published a thoughtful review of Strangers to Ourselves: Unsettled Minds and the Stories That Make Us by Rachel Aviv — a book that’s been widely recognized as one of the most important explorations of mental health in recent years.
Aviv’s work challenges us to look beyond diagnoses and ask deeper questions:
🧠 How do the stories we tell about our minds shape our healing?
🌍 How do culture, identity, and context influence what we call “mental illness”?
For clinicians, it’s a reminder of humility — no single theory or treatment captures the full truth of a person’s experience. For readers, it’s a moving invitation to see mental health with empathy and nuance.
