🧠💬 The Real Antidote to the Youth Mental Health Crisis? Human Connection.

Loneliness, isolation, and digital overload are driving record levels of anxiety and depression among teens and young adults. While therapy and medication can help, they aren't enough on their own.

What young people need most right now is connection—to peers, to adults who listen, and to communities where they feel seen and valued.

At NY Mental Health Center, we believe relationships are the foundation of healing. Read our latest blog to learn how human connection can help reverse the youth mental health crisis—and what we can all do to support it.

We’re proud to announce the launch of neuropsychological testing services under the direction of Dr. Ana Bahamonde, a licensed psychologist specializing in ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

This expansion marks a major milestone for NYMHC as we now offer a comprehensive continuum of care:

 ✅ Psychotherapy
 ✅ Psychiatry
 ✅ Assessment

With the surge in ADHD and ASD diagnoses, accurate assessment is more important than ever. Our team does not prescribe medication for ADHD without a proper neuropsychological evaluation — and now we can offer that care in-house, virtually, and with flexible options.

Assessments available:
🔹 8-hour evaluation + full report (suitable for accommodations)
🔹 4-hour evaluation + diagnostic letter

While insurance often doesn’t cover full assessments, we may be able to submit claims for certain components, reducing costs for clients.

We’re excited to offer this vital service — and to keep building one of the most collaborative, accessible, and clinically excellent mental health teams in New York.

🔹 Thinking About Stopping Psychiatric Medications? Read This First. 🔹

Many people associate psychiatrists with prescribing medications—but what happens when it’s time to stop taking them? Without the right guidance, withdrawal symptoms and mental health setbacks can make the process overwhelming and even dangerous.

At NY Mental Health Center, our expert psychiatrists specialize not just in medication management, but also in helping patients safely taper off prescription drugs when appropriate. Whether you’re considering discontinuing benzodiazepines, stimulants, SSRIs, or other medications, we provide personalized tapering plans to support a smooth, symptom-minimized transition.

✅ Why stop? Some medications lose effectiveness over time, cause unwanted side effects, or may no longer fit your lifestyle.
⚠️ The risks? Stopping suddenly can trigger severe withdrawal symptoms, mental health relapses, or even life-threatening effects.
💡 The right way? A gradual, medically supervised tapering plan that integrates holistic support like therapy, mindfulness, and lifestyle changes.

If you’re thinking about making a change, don’t do it alone. Read our latest blog post to learn more about the safest way to discontinue psychiatric medications: https://nymentalhealthcenter.com/safely-tapering-off-prescription-medications/
